The NHS Inter-Territorial Board meeting held on 22 October 2009 approved the updating of the Strategies on Cancer and Ischemic Cardiopathy, in which the new lines of action will serve to provide continuity and improve the work in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of both pathologies. Also, approval was given to the Evaluation Report on the National Strategy on Mental Health
On Tuesday, 20 October, the National Health System Strategy on Rare Diseases was presented at the MSPS, approved by the Inter-Territorial Board of the National Health System (CISNS) on 3 June in Mérida. The meeting examined the experiences and initiatives in evaluation by other European Member States, such as Italy, Portugal and France, as well as the actions by the European Commission in the area of Rare Diseases
On 29 and 30 September, the conference "Promotion of Mental Health and Well-being of Children and Young People– Making it Happen", organised by the Swedish presidency of the European Union and the European Commission, was held in Stockholm. This was the first of a series of events on Mental Health, in line with the priority areas of the European Pact for Mental Health and Well-Being
On 1 and 2 October, the “Annual Think-Tank Conference on Good Practice in Mental Health Service”, organised by the International Mental Health Collaborative Network (Network of healthcare centres interested in a community focus on the part of mental health services) in Copenhagen. The meeting was held in four sessions, combining talks and four simultaneous workshops per session, where examples of good practices were presented
The Sixth National Congress on Primary Care Nursing. was held at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium, in Oviedo, on 1, 2 and 3 October. Among other round table discussions and workshops, the talk on “Clinical Excellence and Safe Care. Policies of the Ministry of Health” was presented, with particular reference to Project SENECA
The National Strategy on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), approved by the CISNS on 3 June 2009 in order to contribute towards improving the early diagnosis and treatment of COPD, was presented on 6 October at the Ministry of Health and Social Policy. The Strategy is based on the scientific evidence available and includes measures for improving the early detection of patients, among which the following stand out: the screening programmes, the performance of spirometries in health centres (a test indispensable in order to diagnose the disease and assess its seriousness) and the improvement of the level of quality of the care devoted to this pathology
On 14 October 2009, the Committee for the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Strategy on Palliative Care of the NHS met for the purpose of presenting the draft of the Evaluation document which will be submitted shortly to the Inter-Territorial Board for approval. In the framework of the meeting, the review, discussion and approval of this document was undertaken, and proposals of measures for enhancing the Strategy and for the definition of working groups to implement it were put forward
On Monday, 19 October 2009, the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Salud Mental held its First CIBERSAM Meeting in the Auditorium of the “Palacio de Congresos” convention centre in Madrid, within the context of the 13th National Psychiatry Congress, with the slogan “There is no mental health without research”. The aim is to disseminate the principal contributions of this Mental Health Biomedical Research Centre to patients and their families, as well as to achieve a framework that will enable interaction among scientists, associations of patients and families and the media
The “First Series of Meetings on the Organisation of Urgent Attention to Ictus in Castile and León”, was held in Valladolid on 22 October 2009. Among other papers, the Strategy on Ictus of the NHS was presented, together with the objectives and evaluation of the Strategy

The Guidebook on palliative care compiles the healthcare, social and material resources available for professionals and families affected by this circumstance. The document adapts to Navarre the National Health System’s National Strategy on Palliative Care, approved in March 2007
