EuroCigua II: “An integrated approach to assess the human health risks of ciguatoxins in fish in Europe”
Eurocigua II is an European project on Ciguatera, a food poisoning due to marine biotoxins present in certain fish. In the last years it has become a public health concern in the Canary Islands, where it is recognized as an emerging risk partly consequence of the climate change.
The project is led by the General Directorate of Public Health, within the Ministry of Health of Spain. The work started in August 1st, 2022 and will finish in September 2025 and is co-funded with 1 million euros by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
